Adding the Sidebar Widgets to Autofocus WordPress Theme

I’ve noticed that many people are having trouble figuring out how to show the sidebar widgets in the Autofocus theme by Allan Cole on their WordPress blog.

I finally figured it out after reading posts in a several places and with some messing around on my own. I’m going to show you how to do it very easily.

Autofocus Theme Sidebar Widget

As you can see my widgets appear normally on the left of my post in my Autofocus theme on WordPress blog. (click on photo above).

All you have to do is paste this simple short code: <?php get_sidebar() ?> into your single.php file that can be found when clicking on “Editor” under the Appearance tab to the left on the Dashboard. I highlighted it in yellow showing the exact place I pasted it into my single.php file:

Click on the screen shot to see it larger.

I hope this helps everyone that is having trouble figuring that out.

Have a great day and good luck with your page!

Hi Matthew, i just added the line to my autofocus theme .. thank you !!

Just a couple of questions ’bout your wordpress page … what’s the name of the picture gallery plugin? I’m just looking for something similar.

How is it possible to insert a logo near the blog title, as you did ?

    Thank you very much…

    Cheers.
    Ale

P.S. Can i add you on my linkedin profile ?

    • Thank you for your comment and you’re welcome Alessandro, I’m happy it worked for you.

I use the NextGEN Gallery, I really like it a lot and it’s pretty easy to use.

As far as putting the logo beside the title I had to upload a pic of the logo into my media folder on my dashboard and input the reference to it in the Stylesheet and also adjust the positioning of the Title to line it up with the logo.
In the link below is a photo of my stylesheet and where I placed the logo. The first highlight line is the reference code and the second highlighted line is where I had to adjust the position of the title by adding more pixels in the padding to the left and on top of the title: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z186/infinite-magic/Blog%20Pics/TitleLogo.jpg

And please add me on LinkedIn, I would be happy to connect with you on there!

Thank you! I had been struggling with this for the last 2 hours.

Can you tell me where to add the code so the widget sidebar will show up on the home page as well?

    • You are so welcome Amy!

As far as putting that on the home page, I’m not sure exactly where in the code but I know you put the code in the home.php file. You’ll just have to play around with it a bit and try putting it in a few places until you see it’s just right. Good luck.

I have been looking all over but cannot find how to put the title at the top of the single post page and the date in a larger font over at the sidebar. Currently my post title is large, but is over at the sidebar, just above the date (which is in a smaller font). The way you have yours (blog title and date) is how I want to have it appear on the individual post pages. Thanks much!

I just can’t get it to work, what version of AutoFocus are you using? Widgets just don’t appear, I refresh and refresh the browser and nothing :(

  6. SaltWater says:

    It’s working now, I guess I didn’t flush it right :p lol

Thanks for this, I’m working now to add it to my site. Another question that I cannot find the answer to is simple: how do I change the font color in the body of each post to a darker, more readable black? I’ve searched through the CSS stylesheet and there’s so many different categories that I can’t figure out which one affects the post text. Thank you very much!!

Hi can you email me where you put the widget code in the single.php page?… because i dont realize where to put it:) ty

    • I’m sorry, I didn’t realize, I had the wrong image up for the code section. If look now, it’s there and you will easily see where to put the code. I’ve recently switched from Auto Focus to this theme, I really liked Auto Focus a lot, but after a while I was ready for a change.

I was wondering how to add a sidebar to the home page. There is no home.php anymore in the latest version of autofocus?

    Thanks for your input!
