2026 State Fair of Texas photos of people getting lost in the fair’s joyful chaos of packed crowds, crazy food, and giant prizes.

I made my yearly visit to the 2026 State Fair of Texas in Dallas during it’s last weekend. As always, I brought my camera to do some street photography while I was also enjoying the choas myself. Every year I look forward to the fair, to enjoy it and photograph it. I went on a ride and looked through some of the exhibits. I even ate fried Oreos and pumpkin pie, and of course had a Fletcher’s corny dog. As I walked around, I kept noticing people I wanted to photograph. With so many people passing by, I could hardly go anywhere without seeing an interesting face or a moment that made me stop.
Photographing the People
A lot of people were carrying food, children, or enormous stuffed animals they had won at the games. I loved seeing a kid holding tightly to a new prize, or someone walking through the crowd with a stuffed animal so big it was hard to carry. I noticed all sorts of hats, shirts, and expressions. Also the people working at the booths while everyone else enjoyed the fair. There was so much activity around them, but each person seemed to have their attention on something different.
I’ve always had a deep appreciation for people and the character they bring to a place. That’s a big reason why I enjoy photographing the fair. Some people noticed my camera and smiled, while others were busy with their families, looking at their phones, or watching what was happening around them. I enjoyed seeing all of it. When I’m taking street photos, I pay closer attention to people than I otherwise would. I feel more connected to the place I’m in. Looking through these photos afterward brought back not only what the fair looked like, but how it felt to be there among everyone.
These State Fair of Texas photos black and white because I wanted the character, details, and emotions to stand out. I love how colorful the fair is, but in these photos I find myself paying more attention to faces, gestures, and the way the lights from the rides and games fell across people after dark. I had a great time eating, exploring, and going on a ride that day. Getting to photograph the people around me made the visit even better.
