My Writing for New Media class has wrapped up. It was a great class and I learned a lot from it. One of the biggest things I took away from the class was a deeper understanding of how people are connecting with one another on the internet. I personally believe that by nature, humans are social beings and have a constant desire to regularly connect with others. As our technology continues to evolve so will people’s ways to connect with one another. The many different facets of technology people are using to communicate reflect the many different ways we as people like communicate.
From this class I learned how there are many people who love to delve deeply into their thoughts and share them on blogs and others who love to share just short snippets of their lives through sites like Facebook, Twitter & FourSquare. People are naturally inspired by other people, they also love sharing their inspiration with the world around them. With social media this sharing of others work is no longer just in the living room or by the water-cooler but on the internet which is visible by billions of people. This is creating a whole other world of complications. One one hand people love getting exposure, on the other, people want to profit or at least receive all the credit due them for their work. Different solutions to protect artist and creators of content like Creative Commons are popping up all over the place.
Nobody really knows where technology is going to take us, some predict a peaceful world where everyone of all nationalities connect easily. Others predict totally opposite, a world where technology has completely separated people from connecting and getting know each other in meaningful ways. One thing that is known though, if one were to successfully stay current they must be very adaptable new technologies without losing the essence of who they are.
