Blooming Gardenia Flower Time-lapse Video Over A 24-Hour Period

This is a blooming gardenia flower time-lapse video that captures the slow blooming process that a gardenia flower does over a 24-hour period.

This is my first attempt at a long-term time-lapse. It took just over 24 hours to create. Keeping the lighting consistent was very challenging. The gardenia still slightly moved some even though it was indoors. At one point kids bumped into the camera and I had to readjust it. I used a mix of natural and artificial lighting to help keep it constant. But I didn’t realize how often the clouds would move and affect the lighting. There were so many small details like that I had never thought of before.

Time-lapse photography is a technique where the photographer takes a photo in intervals such as 1 per second or 1 minute. Then when those images are played like a video at a normal video speed such as 29 frames per second. This effect makes time appear as if it’s moving faster or lapsing.

I used Moby’s Everloving, one of my all-time favorite songs, as the soundtrack to the time-lapse. I feel like the calming but yet escalating sound of the song fits perfectly with the time-lapse video.
