Old East Dallas Gentrification Photography Documentary Part 11

This is part 11 of a series that explores gentrification in Old East Dallas and how it has been transforming the small Dallas neighborhood.

On this recent shoot, I again focused on homes and also other buildings. Capturing the change in architecture happening in Old East Dallas. I really like a few of the photos in this series but I feel I’m barely getting my feet wet on this project. There is still so much for me to learn about Dallas, gentrification, and film photography.

This building was the headquarters of the Dallas Independent School District from the 1950s until 2016 when they bought a larger office building and moved into it. It was a beautiful art deco building. A developer bought the building and decided to preserve the main part of it which you see in the photo. They are going to make that part of the building the lobby area of a luxury apartment complex they will call The Academic.

I snuck into the property and took a few photos of it. I even went into the building captured the Dallas skyline with a tractor in the foreground from out one of the windows.
