Old East Dallas Gentrification

As my project gains more clarity I find it harder to find the moments and scenes that I feel fit well within my project. That difficulty though has helped me create better images that truly capture my vision. That’s been a very interesting lesson for me…

“The more focused I am, the harder it is to create images, but the images get much better.”

Lately, I’ve been trying to capture the process with simpler images. Images that don’t try to say so much at once but rather show the subtle changes creeping up. Capturing subtly has been a huge challenge for me. I need to find that balance between showing just enough so the viewer catches it but not so much that it’s shoved in their face. I will keep going down this path subtly and see where it takes me.

This neighborhood has been gone under such a dramatic change that I barely recognize the streets I walked up and down 4 years ago. Many of the homes and buildings I captured early on are now gone. They have been replaced with massive apartment buildings or rows of townhouses.
