As my project gains more clarity I’m finding it more challenging. Especially finding the moments and scenes that I feel fit well within my project. That difficulty though has helped me create better images that truly capture my vision. That’s been a very interesting lesson for me…

“The more focused I am, the harder it is to create images, but the images get much better.”

Lately, I’ve been trying to capture the gentrification process in Old East Dallas with simpler images. Images that don’t try to say so much at once but rather show the subtle changes creeping up. Capturing subtly has been a huge challenge for me. I need to find that balance between showing just enough so the viewer perceives it. But not so much that it’s shoved in their face. I will keep going down this path subtly and see where it takes me.

This Dallas neighborhood has changed very dramatically. I barely recognize the streets I walked up and down 4 years ago. I have captured many homes and buildings that are now gone. Real estate developers replaced them with massive apartment buildings or rows of townhouses.
