A series of portraits of people watching the total solar eclipse at SIU in Carbondale, Illinois.
This small series of portraits are of people watching the eclipse as it was actually happening in Carbondale, Illinois. During the eclipse, I walked around the Southern Illinois University campus and met a lot of interesting people. I asked several of them to look up at the impending total eclipse for me to create a photograph. I made the photos with my Hasselblad 500 c/m and Kodak Porta 400 120 medium format film.
One of the things I loved about the solar eclipse was how people of various races, genders, religions, income, and political beliefs were all able in be together in awe for a single moment when the total eclipse happened. For those short 2 and half minutes, we were all just humans enjoying an amazing spectacle of nature.
