This is my first solo photography exhibit, it was featured with Mis-Led, a music performance, at the historic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Kalita Humphreys Theater in Dallas.
Earlier this year, I had the incredible honor of hosting my first solo photography exhibit. It all came together through a friend, Scott Lamberty. He connected me with Keith Mankin, the board president of a Dallas-based vocal ensemble called Verdigris Ensemble. Keith shared with me a powerful project they were working on—a musical performance titled Mis-Led. It highlights the ongoing struggle of West Dallas residents suffering from lead poisoning caused by a nearby plant. These communities have received little help in cleaning up the contamination, and the performance aims to raise awareness and encourage people to get involved.
Since Mis-Led focuses on Dallas, Keith suggested displaying my photos of the city in the lobby for the audience to enjoy before the show. After pitching the idea to the rest of Verdigris Ensemble’s leadership, everyone was on board. The exhibit was at the Kalita Humphreys Theater, a building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright—his only design in Texas. The chance to showcase my work in such a historically significant venue felt like a dream come true.
Preparing My Solo Photography Exhibit
Choosing and preparing the 16 photos for the exhibit was exciting and a little stressful. It was hard at times figuring out which photos to include or to exclude. After printing and matting them at a local print shop, I brought them to the theater and hung them up. The show ran for three days, and I was there every night, watching attendees take in both the performance and my work. People really enjoyed the photos, and a couple of them even went home with new owners. It was such a rewarding experience, and I hope it’s just the first of many shows to come.
So happy for you Matthew! You have worked hard for this moment. Sit back and enjoy! God Bless.
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate that. I did and will enjoy it!
Congratulations Matthew!
Thank you very much!
