A Full Moon Over Dallas Reflecting The Sun’s Light

A Full Moon Over Dallas
A Full Moon Over Dallas

The full moon over Dallas reminded me that in relation with God, I am simply a moon, reflecting the Sun‘s light.

Sometimes, people, including myself, imagine what the earth would be like without the moon. This time though, I wondered I wondered what would the moon be like without the sun? It was the photo above, that provoked me to ask myself that question. After taking that photo and while editing it, I thought maybe it would be just a gray rock floating in space with no earthly night to glow in.

In the first chapter of Genesis God said He created man in His own image. The moon, in some ways, is in the image of the sun. They both are wonderful spherical shapes. The differences are great though, such as their sizes, the sun is massively larger than the moon. Also, the moon relies on the sun’s gravity for its orbit and for light. In contrast, the sun relies on the moon for nothing. The sun produces light, the moon merely reflects the Sun’s light.

In I John 4:8 it says that God is Love. The Sun is light and the moon is a reflection of its light. I relate their relationship to how we are meant to be reflections of God’s love. For example, the moon cannot shine without the Sun just as we cannot love without God.

Tthe closer the moon is to the sun the brighter it shines. How close are you to God? How much of His love is shining through you into the lives of others? Are you in the light or in darkness? Are you living in love or in fear?

  1. Wow Matthew…I absolutely LOVE this!! What great thoughts, and so very true!! Made me think of this verse, ” Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.” ~John 1:3-5
Most inspirational, and what a great analogy!
