Sam and Nia Rader Lip-Sync Of "Love Is An Open Door" Goes Super Viral

This past Monday, my brother Samuel Rader and his wife Nia published a video of them lip-syncing “Love Is an Open Door” from Disney’s Frozen.

Within one day it had over 40,000 views. I was astonished. Two days later, on Thursday (when this blog was published), the video had over 2 million views. The video went completely viral and is still going strong at the moment.

We were all amazed at the popularity of the video. Its success is due to a combination of several factors. First, the movie Frozen is a very current topic. The movie has grossed over $1 billion and is now the second highest-grossing animated film of all time.

The Backstory Of Sam and Nia Rader’s Viral Video

Apart from the timeliness of their video, the quality of it is important too; the lighting, focus, positioning, and the fact it’s recorded in HD all help make it very easy to watch. The title of their video is a bit absurd which draws in more attention. Calling themselves “good looking parents” seems so vain. Yet because so many people agreed or disagreed, the title became a huge topic of discussion. The excellent execution of the lip-syncing made it absolutely fun to watch. Their faces were so full of expression and they had perfect gestures to complement the words in the song. Nia told me they had practiced lip-syncing the song for about a week.

The final unplanned touch is their daughter in the backseat. She is sitting there in her own little world as her parents lip-sync away. She brought an entire layer to the video and helped give it some depth. That helped separate their video from just any other well done lip-sync. Ultimately, their video reinforced the idea that movies like Frozen aren’t just for kids. Adults can enjoy them too, even more than their children sometimes.

I asked Sam and Nia Rader some questions about their video. They said they recorded it the day they posted it on YouTube. I asked them what inspired them to make that video. Nia told me that about a week before they were playing the Frozen soundtrack in the car for their daughter and while they were driving around they noticed each other singing with the songs. So Samuel suggested that they learn to lip-sync with the song really well and make a video of them doing it to see if it goes viral.

Media Raction

Now they are getting lots of phone calls and emails from news agencies asking them if they can air their video. It has now been played on several shows and talked about on radio stations all over the U.S. This morning they got their first request for an on-camera interview with the local FOX affiliate. This ride has been pretty exciting so far, only time will tell how long it’s going to last.
